Assoc. Prof. Gena Grancharova graduated in medicine and completed doctoral studies at the Medical University "I.M. Sechenov". He started teaching at the Medical Academy – Sofia (1974-1976). From 1976 to 2022 she has been working at the Medical University of Pleven. She founded the Department of Social Medicine (1976), the specialty "Health Care Management" (1996), the Faculty of Public Health (2004), through which the Medical Institute was transformed into Medical University of Pleven. During the period 2005-2013 she has been Dean of the Faculty of Public Health and a winner of a number of awards "For exceptional merits to the development of MU-Pleven", including the honorary sign "SIGNUM LAUDIS". She was also the founder of the only Faculty of Health Care at the same institution (2008). Under her leadership many bachelor's and master's degree programs were established such as "Health Care Management", "Public Health and Health Management", "Protection and Control of Public Health", “Medical Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy”. Assoc. Prof. Gena Grancharova is the author of more than 150 scientific publications, a leading author and editor of many textbooks in the field of socio-medical sciences which are appreciated and used by the students and specialists across the country: "Social Medicine" (1996, 2002, 2006, 2009, 2015, 2016), "Fundamentals of Social Medicine" (2021), "Health Care Management" (2005. 2011, 2016), "Fundamentals of Health Care Management" (2022), "Medical Statistics" (2004, 2011), "Statistics in Health Management" (2014), "Global Public Health Issues" (2014), "Human Resource Management" (2014), etc. Since 2016 she has been Chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Public Health (BAOZ), a member of the Governing Board of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) and the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA).
